This little tool is great for scanning your OBD to get codes. The program it comes with is pretty powerful and actually does a lot more such as reading real time operations of your engine. great for someone who is just trying to make the check engine light go away or more serious tuners that need to pull engine data for finer tuning. only reason i gave 4 stars is because the button on the reader broke after a year. i had to open it up and discover that the solder weld on teh button just gave away, so a little work to fix. Bought this for myself, had my wife wrap it up for me for Christmas...well then I had a light come on and a shaking car so I had to have an early Christmas present. Popped it in, synced to my phone, identified a misfire right away, bought a new ignition coil and fixed the problem, all in all including unwrapping took about an hour and about 1/8th the cost of taking to the shop, already paid for itself. Now that autozone won't check codes it sure is nice to not have to go to a shop. (Posted on 1/24/2017)

Very pleased with the product, it works as advertised and then some!

Pros
-Product is small and unobtrusive, ideal for my application.
-Installation and Bluetooth connection to my android device was easy.
-OBD code reading and clearing is very simple.
-Scanner tool provides access to real time diagnostic displays in an easy to interpret manner.

Cons
-Bluetooth connection is unstable in some mobile devices, dropping the connection in the middle of a diagnostic session or real time monitoring.
-Unpairing and re-pairing of the scanner tool to a device is needed approximately every three days on all mobile devices tested

I wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone wanting an ODB scanner tool that wirelessly connects to your mobile device. The dropped connection issue is but a small inconvenience to deal with. (Anyone with a Bluetooth device will know connection issues happen, so this is definitely NOT a deal breaker for me.) (Posted on 1/24/2017)

I develop OBD BT apps and this dongle is top notch. Reasons are: 1-it actually conforms to the ELM spec for AT commands. This means it will work with any of the Android apps you are using. 2-It has a very low power mode (2ma) that it enters when not connected to BT so it will not drain your battery if you leave it plugged in to your car for long periods.

It is not to the latest ELM 2.1 spec but at the 1.4 level. I was told the manufacturer will release a firmware update to include the 2.1 features. For the price it should be the latest ELM 2.1 spec compatible.

I have been trying some of the cheaper dongles but I have had mixed success in the ELM commands supported. This is a very hi quality dongle with tech support so you can ask someone a question if you have issues. (Posted on 1/24/2017)

The device is simple and easy to use.

I like that dashboards and displays can be customized to the information YOU want to see in digital, analog, large or small displays, etc. I imagine the available data depends on your vehicle, I have access to more information than I could possibly care to know about the car. I had to pair it twice before it connected but haven't had an issue since.

Vehicle speed is spot on. Other things like fuel level and temps are spot on as well.

Some of the app calculated values aren't very accurate.

I bought this as a toy mostly just because I can set up my phone in the car mount and display more information than I would be able to on the vehicles gauge cluster.

The trouble code scanning is a plus but I have not used it to resolve any problems with the vehicle so I can't detail how well or accurate that is. (Posted on 12/1/2016)

I'm a mechanic at big o tires woodland, ca. And this works great for me. We have a 15k$ snap on that does most anything. And this Bluetooth one will read 90% of what the snap on can. You can't turn anything on like the fan or fuel pump. But I can read codes, clear them, and check fuel trims, o2 sensors. Graph stuff. Even used it when our snap on broke for a few days. This, compared to others seems expensive but don’t be fooled into buying cheap this OBD is worth the extra few pounds. It has a security button that needs to be pressed and once pressed connects straight away to my android device. I use the Torque ap to help with diagnostics and many other features, 0 -60 etc and because of the high transfer rate this works really well! Save a lot of money finding fault codes, this OBD is great and safe so can stay connected in the car. (Posted on 10/13/2016)

I installed this on a 2008 Honda Ridgeline (9141-2 OBD2 protocol) and it paired right up with no issues. I like the ScanTool app available on the Google Play store too. In addition, I also use Torque Pro.

I found that I cannot run both Torque Pro and the ScanTool app at the same time. The ScanTool app has a connect/disconnect button at the bottom of the screen. If I want to use Torque Pro after using the ScanTool app, I first have to disconnect using that button before running Torque Pro.

And if after using Torque Pro, I decide to use the ScanTool app, I have to quit Torque Pro, crank up the ScanTool app, and hit the connect button.

I find both apps to be very useful, so that's a minor hassle in order to use both. I only wish they could both be operative at the same time so I could flip back and forth between them. I don't know if that is a limitation of Lollipop, BlueTooth, or the adapter.

Regardless, I find the adapter to work and function as advertised. I am pleased with the product.

Note: The ScanTool OBDLink LX adapter replaced an inexpensive supermini ELM327 adapter (which also worked fine). The OBDLink LX is about twice the size of the supermini, but I have no issues with it interfering with driver legroom. (Posted on 8/15/2016)

Works as advertised. The cheaper readers might be cheaper, but doesn't compare in regards of how solid and fast this device is. That alone deserves a consideration. There is very little to no lag when polling data from my car and displaying it.

To those concerned of battery drain, please make sure that your vehicle doesn't have other issues that could drain the battery. I've had the OBDLink plugged in 24/7 in my car and other than rough starts due to the cold weather, there are no signs of noticeable battery drain. (Posted on 8/15/2016)

I was a bit surprised at first just how easily this did connect, and even more pleased at how it reconnects each time to either my tablet or phone.

The OBDLink app I personally found to be the best one for me, so that was a double plus. Overall I would highly recommend this. For casual user who just wants to scan and read diagnostic codes, or the enthusiast who wants to this running at all times, this product does its job perfectly. Furthermore, I never have had issue with Bluetooth connection, it has yet to randomly disconnect as I have experienced other devices to sometime do (i.e. BT keyboard for tablet, or BT headsets for phone) (Posted on 8/15/2016)

This is the tool to get if you need an OBDII scanner. There is plenty of selections out there, but for an Android user like me, this is a perfect tool to work with. For Android, you can download the free OBDLink scan tool, but I haven't quite figured out how well the app supports multiple-vehicle profile. If you have multiple car sharing this one little tool, you can purchase Torque app on Google Play. Torque allows you to set up the vehicle profile once, and be done with it for life.

A couple things to keep in mind on what the tool can do for you. You can definitely use it to scan for faulty engine code, so you don't have to make a trip to O'Reilly's/AutoZone/AAP for engine code scan. In addition, you can reset the engine codes, and verify the issue after driving for 30 min or less. If you plan to get your car state-inspected, you will definitely need to drive your car for about 30 min, so you don't automatically fail the test.

Other neat feature includes real-time monitoring of the vehicle data, including but not limited to engine temperature. In fact, because of this tool, I was able to detect abnormal engine temperature while driving and took corrective measures (adding for engine coolants) before the car breaks down on freeway.

In all seriousness, within a week later, it detected a failed upstream oxygen sensor. Since I knew what went wrong, I was able to buy an oxygen sensor online and figured out the repair on my own. After that, the same vehicle passed Texas State Inspection. In all, I gained the knowledge on how to replace oxygen sensor and not have to throw money at a local mechanics.

This is a small investment that will save you a ton of headache later on. A must have indeed! (Posted on 8/15/2016)

Good scan tool, with nice features like sleep mode that make it worth the price.

Warning: please google search your vehicles profile and such to make sure you statically set your settings using the torque app at first use. I made the mistake of not doing this and have ran into problems. When starting the car the torque and the device begin scanning for vehicle information and hardware which would interrupt certain electrical systems in the car. I began receiving engine warning lights and transmission codes. Worried I took my car to a mechanic to have it checked. Fake errors, so just set it up right the first time and you are good to go! Does what it says, and does it very well. The software it comes with might as well be beer coasters, works great with Torque Pro on my phone. Saved a ton of money using it on my car and friend's cars. This is my second, I had an MX model and lost it. Just had to get another one, and immediately saved more than the purchase price clearing a spurious emissions code. A friend got a couple of the cheap odd brand cheap ones (less than $15 each) both didn't last more than a week. ScanTool's keep working great. (Posted on 8/15/2016)

This thing is wonderful! It took a few minutes to get setup.. the quick start instructions didn't say I had to hit the little button on the unit to initiate pairing mode, but once I looked up the instructions on the website it was a piece of cake.

The included app is great and easy to use as well. It also works with both Torque and Torque Lite. This thing is going to save me tons of money in the coming years! It's already saved me a trip to the shop by telling me my problem is a bad o2 sensor that I can easily replace myself. Take that emissions! (Posted on 8/15/2016)
